December 11, 2025: Woke up to some sad news today: Ortolan Bunting (Emberiza hortulana) is determined to be extinct in Norway, following the steady intensification of agriculture since the 1950s. I was lucky to observe, photograph and record it on its last know site, together with my little brother, Noah, in 2024. It is heartbreaking that this lovely song is now only a memory of the soundscapes I call home.

October 30, 2025: New ticks on my Icelandic bird list in October: Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius), Brown-headed Cowbird (Molothrus ater), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), Lapland Bunting (Calcarius lapponicus), Alder Flycatcher (Empidonax alnorum), Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronata), Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata), Bobolink (Dolichonyx oryzivorus), White-rumped Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis), Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris), Tennessee Warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina), Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca), Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra) and Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceus).
October 26, 2025: Tjarnabyggð: A frozen German and a Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius).
October 24, 2025: Lækjartorg: 100 000+ supporters of womens right's in Iceland, including 9 overwhelmed birders looking for Iceland's first ever Brown-Headed Cowbird (Molothrus ater) amongst the banners and shouts. Quoting a passerby: "Men will do anything but go to therapy...".
October 23, 2025: Iceland's first and only Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor) was shot in Hólavallagarður on this day, 70 years ago. We spent some time looking for the grave on which is was shot, following its miscalculated migration from north-america. Clue: "Grave marked by shot-gun pellets". Result: Didn't find it.
October 21, 2025: I have decided that I want to write a paper about the massive influx of rare vagrant birds to Iceland this autumn. Who's interested in publishing???
October 20, 2025: Inspired by this work by Lucrezia Costa and a chat, I am wondering if I should start experimenting with how I document projects...

July 25, 2025: Today is: Bestemordagen! Took my grandma and my brother to Alby Gård and Galleri F15. Grandma especially liked this work, by Natasha Barrett. We made an ambient mix of Playboi Carti, a Common Firecrest (Regulus ignicapillus) and Grandma's calming voice.
